McDonald's Angus Third Pounder

Well, the name certainly doesn't roll off the tongue, now does it? But the concept is intriguing. The McChronicles just read this on the QSR Magazine website:

"McDonald's customers have shown strong support for the new Angus Third Pounders that debuted in Southern California last March. Positive customer feedback has prompted McDonald's marketing co-ops in New York and Central Ohio to introduce the newest line of hamburgers to its customers. "

"Angus Third Pounders are made with 100-percent USDA-inspected Angus Beef, with red onions, sauteed mushrooms, iceberg lettuce and sliced red tomatoes, served on a bakery-style sesame seed roll. The hamburgers come in three varieties: Angus Deluxe, Angus Mushroom and Swiss, and Angus Bacon and Cheese, for a suggested retail price of $3.99 each."

If you have had any experience with this new product, comment and share your thoughts.

As if the double quarter pounder was not big enough...

Thanks for the informative blog, I'm glad I came across it.

Check on wait times for these burgers. My husband ordered one when they debuted in Los Angeles/Orange County earlier this year, and said it took McDonald's forever to deliver on the sandwich...Either way , Angus burgers are pretty popular in my 'hood.

i'm from san diego and i had one a few months ago. i have to say, it wasn't particularly good. i secretly enjoy the double cheese burger and was hoping that it was going to be on par with that. unfortunately not the case. i didn't have the same waiting experience as the fast food maven, but i just wasn't overly impress. too much food, yet not good enough.

Had one today in NY. Terrible. Made me feel sick. The 1/3 lb. burger comes with what seemed like a 1/2 lb. bun, and the bun was spongy, doughy, milky, too big, etc. The burger alone was probably not what made me sick, in fact it was pretty good. But I love my burgers and steak salty, so other people may thing the McD's Angus a bit salty for their taste. I had the variety with mushrooms and swiss, and those ingredients coupled with a bit of mayo weren't so bad either. I really think the bun should be lighter, smaller, and toasted. But maybe then I'll still get sick. Who knows. Bottom line though, if you want quality burgers, don't think you'll find them in fast food chains.

In New York State the 1/3 Pound Angus Burger has moved out from NYC and is now available throughout the state. Can't wait to try one.

Thanks for the feedback.

The Carl's Jr. $6 burgers are way, way better than McD's Angus burger. It was a disappointment.

@ frank:

the double quarter pounder is larger than the 1/3 pounder. (.5 lbs vs. .333 pounds)

Just ate one... It wasn't good... the bun was huge and heavy, the burger tasted prefabricated and super salty, basically it was like beef flavored plastic... I had the deluxe one and I didn't like it. Only thing i liked about it is that it had a tomato...
