- 2 hamburger patties
- hamburger bun (using an extra bottom as the middle bread)
- 1 cheeseburger cheese slice
- Big Mac sauce
- lettuce
- pickles
- onion
- salt
- pepper
The McChronicles requested to pay for the sandwiches as if they were regular Big Macs.
We eagerly opened the boxes, first exposing a Mini Mac, pictured on the left (we ordered two). We were a little surprised at how big it looked - we were expecting, and hoping for, something smaller. Next, we popped open the regular Big Mac, pictured on the right (we ordered one). We were again surprised, this time at how much larger the Big Mac was. OK, so the Mini Mac was smaller ... but, we were disappointed that it wasn't as small as we were hoping for.
Next, we ate the sandwiches. The Mini Mac was no neater than the Big Mac.
Bottom line:
No matter how large or small, the Big Mac tastes EXCELLENT!
However, we did not succeed in creating a version that satisfied our desire for notably smaller, less volume, fewer calories, and neater.
Do you have any ideas?
I know it's a compromise, but perhaps just a single cheesebuger with Big Mac sauce would give you the taste you are looking for.

ReplyDeleteI find that the "Mac Snack Wrap" - available in Canada, NYC, and other markets, is great. It satisfies my urge for a Big Mac - and in a smaller, tidier portion.
ReplyDeleteYes, theorbo, I am hoping they roll out the Mac Snack Wrap all over. I haven't been able to get one here in Ohio but I think it would be a big hit.
ReplyDeleteI tried the Angus and I liked it but a friend told me that the Angus offered at McDonald's in Canada is much better. He says that the meat is better and the bun is a Ciabatta. Can anyone confirm or deny this?

I've ordered Big Macs without the meat. Or, if your McDonald's has the McVeggie burger, get them to use mac sauce on the veggie burger. :)
ReplyDeleteBig D - The only Canadian McD sandwiches I've had on Ciabatta are the chicken sandwiches. But, according to the Canadian McD nutrition guide (http://www.mcdonalds.ca/NutritionCalculator/index_en.html) it does appear that an Angus/Ciabatta combo is offered.
ReplyDeleteI am confused...all you did on your post was not use a sesame seed bun...I feel that would just make it the same just messier because you are not using a big enough bun.
ReplyDeleteI laugh when people criticize McD's for calories, etc. People know what they're getting by now. Everyone has heard it and seen it on tv or elsewhere. It's time for people to take responsibility for their actions.

ReplyDeleteI work in a Canadian (Ontario) restaurant and the Crispy Chicken, Southwest Crispy, Grilled chicken, Southwest Grilled, and all Angus burgers are the only ones on chiabatta bread... although many customers prefer it on a quarter bun.
ReplyDeleteI'm new to this blog, but I think you are headed the wrong direction. I want to see the G-Mac (short for giant mac) using the same buns, and the 1/4lb patties. Now THAT would be a sandwich. Who cares about messy!
ReplyDeleteIn Australia they had a promotional burger calles "Son of Mac" about 1997. It was a Big Mac on a regular bun with sesame seeds. Much much earlier when maccas opened in australia in 1971 they had a Deluxe Burger and Deluxe Cheese Burger. This was wapped in a foil wrap and was on a reg bun with mac sauce, lettuce,pickle (cheese). The onion was placed on the meat after it was turned over (before clam shell grills).
ReplyDeleteThey stopped selling it with the introduction of the quarter pounder. At the same time we sold chicken pieces and coleslaw like KFC.

ReplyDeleteAbout 10 years ago, here in New Jersey, they offered Mini Macs at McDonalds. It had (1) patty, slice of cheese, lettuce, pickle,onions,mac sauce,(1) sesame seed bun. It only lasted a couple of months. Last year I found a single location that had them but they also stoped. They were only $1.

I know we used to have the Mac Jr. in Cleveland,Ohio. Quarter pounder bun with 1 squirt of mac sauce, dehides, 2 pickles, shredded lettuce, one iece of cheese and one piece of 10-1.

I work at a McDonald's in Canada, and as a off menu item we have the DLM (Double Like Mac). It doesn't have a bun in the middle however. Also, on the grill menu (The screen used to modify a item) there is also a 'Like a Mac' button.
