The McChronicles recently posted on something intriguing going down in Singapore, the DOUBLE FILET-O-FISH. Turns out it isn't all that unusual.Today we walked into our home McDonald's, flashed them a live view of The McChronicles website on our Treo and asked them if they could whip us up a DFOF. The register person had to ask, but the manager glanced at the image, smiled, and said, "Double filet-o-fish. Sure!" They even have a button for it on the register. It was simple.
One minute, and $5 later (also ordered a small Coke - the sandwich was $3.59) came the big test. The expectation was that it would have an imbalanced taste (too much fish). Wrong! To our taste, this sandwich was surprisingly fantastic. You can bet that The McChronicles will be ordering another double filet-o-fish in the near future.

I tried to order one in Germany, near Frankfurt, but the register Person said no. Then I asked the Manager of the Store, he said this wouldn´t exist, after i told this would be sold in Singapore, it´s not possible to order one.
ReplyDeleteMcChronicles, which type of register machine does your home-store has? Maybe we have in Germany the same buttons on it, this would also mean i could finally taste a double-cheeseburger.
The McChronicles doesn't know the intricacies of McDonald's cash registers (except that our local store manager told us that his registers had a button for the DFOF).
ReplyDeleteThe sandwich is simple: just order a regular FOF and ask for one extra fish pattie. The build-up is: bun, fish, cheese, fish, sauce, bun (we order it sans frommage).
In Upstate New York we pay US$3.59 for the DFOF.

Buttons need to be programmed. It will be there if the computer guys haven't changed the button for another promo. Otherwise it wouldn't even be possible to order the extra fish patty because there's no button that will it from inventory, which is the only real requirement to sell it to you.
ReplyDeleteI'm still pushing for a "fish and chips" product -- one or two FOF patties and regular or large fries on a faux-newspaperprint open boxtray. Sauce should be the McChicken mayo, not the FOF tartar sauce.

ReplyDeleteDid I read that receipt correctly? They actually charge an "eat in tax"?
ReplyDeleteYou are the 2nd person to make mention of this.
ReplyDeleteThis particular McDonald's simply keys in whether or not the customer is eating IN the dining room ("for here"), or is taking the meal "to go". Somehow that info comes up on the receipt - next to the TAX line label.
There is no special tax for eating inside the restaurant.
The McChronicles has always felt this setup was weird and potentially off-putting.

The Mcdonald's where I live (Phoenix, Arizona) has the eat in tax thing also and it does throw you off at first but if they did charge an "eat in fee", you would have another line showing your sales tax. Double Filet-o-Fish does tastes surprisingly wonderful.

ReplyDeleteI had a Mega Mac in Turkey which I've never seen anywhere else but I'm not sure if it was a legit McDonalds.

Back in 2008 I believe, select markets had a DFOF promotion with an actual button ( I know of a few in TN ),I work at one in IN now, however, unless you were one of those that participated, you wont have a special button, but all other stores have to do is hit " Grill " or " A LA CARDE " and there is a button to ring up a single patty or add an extra patty, you can do this with anything, including a mcchicken or an angus, I think a fillet patty is like 1.20 or 1.30 to add it on. Still cheaper than ordering 2 separate. But yep, you can order a double angus delux, or a double or tripple mcchicken, anything
